Folio
Folio privacy
Folio is in development and is not yet available in app stores. This page describes how the current product is designed to handle reading data; details will be updated if they change before release.
Library data on your devices
Folio is designed to keep your library records, reading position, highlights, notes, collections, and reader settings in the app on your devices. It does not require a Thoughtbubble account. Imported book files are read without modifying the originals; Folio keeps your reading notes and settings as app data.
Optional iCloud sync
Sync is off until you enable it. If you turn it on, Folio uses the private CloudKit database in your iCloud account. You can choose to sync the full library, reading data without book files, or reading progress only. Book files are included only with the full-library scope. Sync data travels through Apple iCloud, not a Folio library server.
Catalog connections
You can connect an OPDS catalog and browse or download books from that service. Its server receives the connection information needed to answer your request and may apply its own privacy policy. Credentials for password-protected catalogs are kept in your device Keychain. Reading books already in your library does not require a network connection.
This product site uses anonymous pageview and interaction analytics. The Website analytics section below explains what the website measures. The website and Folio app have separate data flows; website analytics do not include your library, files, reading position, highlights, or notes.
Optional launch notifications
If you choose a store badge and submit your email, the site sends your address to the signup service at subs.briansunter.com with the store you selected and the signup source and placement. It is used to send a launch notice for that store. Joining the list is optional; it does not create a Folio account or send your library data. To ask a question or request removal from the list, email brian@thoughtbubble.dev.
Website analytics
This Thoughtbubble website uses Umami to measure anonymous pageviews and interactions, such as opening an app, choosing a store, reading a blog, or using a demo. Events include limited product, platform, and source context so we can understand which pages and links are useful.
Website analytics do not include your files, pasted text, reading content, search terms, sleep times, or other personal inputs. Page and link addresses are recorded without URL query strings or fragments. We do not send account identities or persistent device identifiers with these events.
The analytics service receives ordinary connection information, including IP address and browser information, to produce aggregate visitor and device reports.
This disclosure covers the website, including its portfolio pages, product landings, blogs, and demos. The apps and external services linked here have their own privacy policies.
